Koenig & Bauer Kyana, a subsidiary of Koenig & Bauer AG, is resolutely driving the future viability of its customers, evidenced by the successful integration of a competitor's printing press into the Koenig & Bauer digital ecosystem at its customer, Grafika Printing, Inc. in Pennsylvania. This integration allows Grafika for the first time to centrally collect and evaluate all production data – including data from third-party machines – within the Kyana Data analysis tool. This establishes the foundation for complete transparency of production processes, which is necessary to optimise overall production performance. The move underscores Koenig & Bauer Kyana’s commitment to being a strong partner to its customers and leading the entire print and packaging industry into the digital future.
The connection of the third-party machine was achieved via the IIoT gateway Kyana Connect, which establishes a secure, manufacturer-independent connection to the Koenig & Bauer Cloud and forms the technical basis for using the digital products. Through the central customer portal myKyana, the gateway to Koenig & Bauer's digital world, Grafika gains direct access to the intelligent production data analysis tool Kyana Data and the AI expert Kyana Assist.
“Our mission is to lead the print and packaging industry into the future,” explains Sandra Wagner, CEO of Koenig & Bauer Kyana. “The successful connection of the third-party machine at Grafika shows that we are not limiting ourselves to our own machines, but are acting as a true partner. We are creating holistic data transparency across the entire machine park so that our customers can make sound, data-driven decisions.”

With Kyana Data, Grafika gains deeper insights into its manufacturing processes. The tool allows complex analyses to be effortlessly generated and production data to be visualised using freely configurable dashboards and flexible KPIs. By including the data from the third-party machine, a complete picture of production is created, which is used for continuous performance analysis, benchmarking, and identifying potential areas for optimisation.
“The ability to aggregate and intelligently analyse data from heterogeneous machine parks is the decisive lever for optimising production workflows,” says Dr. Felix Oberdorf, Head of Digital Development at Koenig & Bauer Kyana. “This open approach of also including third-party machines proves the technological maturity of our digital products and our focus on providing real added value for customers – beyond manufacturer boundaries.”
For Bernie Elzer III, CEO of Grafika, this step is a significant milestone for increasing company efficiency: “With Koenig & Bauer Kyana, we have found a partner who understands our challenges and offers us a solution that makes our entire production transparent – regardless of the machine manufacturer. The ability to centrally analyse all our production data in Kyana Data has already led to concrete measures with which we have been able to significantly boost our performance. This is the path to maximum competitiveness.”
Koenig & Bauer Kyana will consistently further develop its digital product portfolio, which includes the AI-powered expert Kyana Assist and the energy management system VisuEnergy X in addition to myKyana, Kyana Connect, and Kyana Data. The focus will continue to be on AI and data-driven solutions that cover the entire life cycle of print products.
