Responsibility For Our Customers

At Koenig & Bauer, environmental aspects and compliance with high quality and safety standards have been consistently taken into account for years. In the development and design of our products, attention is paid to energy and resource consumption in the manufacturing process as well as during the operation of the machines and systems. In addition, the focus is on minimizing emissions of CO2, noise, dust, and odor in production and among product users. In considering the environmental impact of our products, we also include the recyclability of the equipment and therefore rely on components that are recyclable.

To coordinate our efforts and establish overarching standards, we have joined various networks in this field. Overall, we see sustainability and climate protection as part of our responsibility toward future generations. Specifically, however, this already opens up diverse opportunities today to place new products, equipment options, and services on the market and to differentiate ourselves from the competition.

To lower CO₂ emissions during the use of our products, we specifically optimize their energy consumption. In sheetfed offset presses, Koenig & Bauer offers various energy-efficient alternatives for the drying process as one of the most energy-intensive areas in print shops. A solution developed by Koenig & Bauer in the Paper & Packaging business unit is VariDryBlue drying. To dry water-based dispersion coatings, hot air is passed over the sheets twice, saving the heating of additional ambient air. With the double-nozzle design of the VariDryBlue+ infrared/hot air dryer, energy requirements can be reduced by up to 35% compared to the predecessor model. The VariDry LED-UV dryer consumes up to 30% less energy compared to conventional UV dryers.

To assist our customers in reducing resource consumption in printing operations, Koenig & Bauer offers various systems and equipment options. QualiTronic inline measuring and inspection systems reduce the consumption of printing substrates and consumables in connection with an ink workflow by up to 30% compared to printing systems without these equipment options.

In addition to technical solutions and systems for reducing energy and resource consumption, the focus at Koenig & Bauer is on minimizing emissions. Here, our product users can choose various equipment options to reduce emissions of dust, odor, noise, and ink mist as far as possible. For UV printing and finishing, we optionally offer the Emission Extraction System. The extraction of odors and dust takes place at the main workplace of the printer in the delivery area. Additionally, extraction in the area of the inking units is possible to minimize ink mist. This example and many other systems and technologies from Koenig & Bauer show the significant role the issue of emissions plays in the development of our machines and systems. This spirit of innovation ultimately led to our Rapida presses being awarded the "Emission Tested" certificate by the German Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Printing and Paper Processing in the year 2000 as the first sheetfed offset presses worldwide.
